THE LAST DAYS IN THIS SEMESTER

We are now in the last few days in this semester, some of us will go and others will stay, and we don't know who will stay or who will leave. We did many things in this semester and we learned many things so made new friends. I will really miss my friends I have learned many things since this semester started. For example, I have improved my grammar skills, because our Reading, Writing, Grammar teacher is very professional and strict and she has taught us new many ways to read. We have improved our skills in writing and we have studied listening and speaking with Harriet. We learned many things with her. For instance taught us how take notes and improve our listening skill. We made small oral presentations many weeks, benefit. I got a big benefit from this semester and I hope to meat all my friends. Actually I hope to be admitted to this university. If I am not, I am going to transfer to another university. I don't know yet what will happen.

THE HOME SCHOOLING

We met some nice people yesterday. They were a Mrs. C and her kids; really I liked the kids and they were very cute. She talked about home schooling and her experience with it, and why she started with idea to home school her kids and the reasons. I have background about home schooling, but she surprised me when she said may be she continues the home schooling. I got some information for example, the way which she used to teach her and how she got the books. I strongly believe the home schooling is a good idea, but in early age. I really I respectful the Mrs. C because she worked hard to teach here kids the best things and she take care about her children very much. I think in home schooling there are disadvantages and advantages. I hope from the family who home school to fined new ways to teach the kids.

The first novel in my life

I have not experienced enough about reading the novels. I haven’t read novels before The Five People You Meet in Heaven. I think this novel is niether hard nor easy . Really I enjoyed reading this novel because I am interested in what the story is talking about. For example, the story talks about Eddie’s life, and the heaven. The handouts help me because they give me main ideas and background information. Actually I listened to this strory just one time and I think it’s very useful and helped me to understand the story.

THE WEEKEND

In the last weekend in Ramadan I have invited my friends in Maryland, Virginia, and Washington. Essa, Alhajri, and me made a big meal we cooked a traditional food. My friends to me, and we have a big meal. After the break fast we had some tea, and we talked about Ramadan in our country. Every body liked to be in his country during Ramadan, because Ramadan has a special way in our life. They stayed until midnight. Next day my friend he has invited us in his apartment we have a big meal also. So I think my weight in this weekend increase.

THE CAMELS IN OUR LIFE

From the old eras the camel has a special position in our life. We used the camels in many ways. We used the camel in trade way. Moving, and racing. The camel from the past until now has a same value in our life. Now we have cars, but the camel position didn't change. In winter I used to go to live in the desert in big camp. I set, and I take care about the camels, because the camels are very expensive. In my case I don't have the camels just for habits or racing. I love the camels very much. You see the camel which with me in this picture we just we bought before a few months, and this camel won in the racing. I hop to go back to Qatar in December, and set in the desert with my camels.

HARPER'S FERRY

I like the history very much, and I interested about many events which happened in the history. Especially I interested about United States history. I read about civil war that happened in United States. The MEI staff and students went to the West Virginia.
In early morning we took the black bus which I really I like it. After two hours we arrived to Harpers Ferry. From the first look I said wow!! This place what I was looking for. I saw old houses and every thing from the past. We walked around, and we visited many places, before we walked we mad three groups. The Nina group, Harriet group, and Aaron group. I was in Nina group. Nina group started with a book shop, and I bought book about the president Lincoln life. Then we visited John Brown museum. In this trip I knew about him. Really I interested about John Brown. Then we walked to Jefferson rock, and we took many photos there. Next Nina and me we talked about civil war while we were walking to the bridge. In the way we found wax museum about John brown, and I went there, and I saw the mean events which happened in John life. The Nina group was waiting for me out side the museum. When I finished I told Nina what I saw. We crossed the river. And I saw a small canal. Finally we walked back to bus stop, and we took the bus to Maryland. In the way back Essa took some photos when I was sleeping. I took some photos when he was sleeping but he hid his photos.

I am doing well

I am doing well in Nina’s class. I am going to Improve my English, because I have learned many things, when this class began, I learned to read fast, and I have improve my grammar skills we have had many quizzes. We have been writing many drafts to improve our writing skills.

My trip to Colorado

Two weeks ago I and Essa went to Colorado to visit our friends. They was here in Maryland. We had no class in Friday, so we got a good chance to do thing interesting. We decided to travel to Colorado, but we don't tell our friends. We want make surprise for them. We bought two tickets by the internet. We choice South West Air lines, because some of our friends recommended trying this Air lines. We went to Baltimore Air port we went inside the plane it was very small, and no TV, stereo, and the long of this trip three hours, so it was boring trip. We arrived to Denver air port. One of our friends he knew about us. He received us and we went to our friend town it's located one hour from Denver, when we arrived they was sleeping, so no surprise we slept because we tired. Next day we walked around in this town it was very cold and beautiful place every things natural. Really I liked that. During the stay in Colorado the Ramadan began and we were happy and after noon we made a big meal, finally we went back to Maryland, but I didn't have photos because I forgot my camera.

The first look fair

Essa and I we went to the clubs exhibits and we walked around. There are many sections, for example a culture section, religious section, and sports section. I started with culture and I found Arabic organization they called OAS '' organization Arabic student '' and I took some information to meet them, after that I went to religion section. I started with Islamic group and I asked them about the Muslims meeting, I asked them about close Mosque '' Masjed'' and interested about the another religions , so I went to Jewish group and I asked about the Jewish religion, next I went to Cher stain group and I took one book about Jesus' life and I hope to read this book. Finally I went to sport section, and Interested about Black belt team they teach you to use the swords like Samurai, and I joined in this team. Really I like this celebrate because I got new information.

The speaking partener

My speaking partner is Michael. He is from New Jersey, and he is studying business. Just I know this information about him and I couldn’t stay with him because I had to go to the airport to take plane to Colorado. I took his e-mail and his cell phone number. I emailed him to set up a time to meet, but no answer from him until now.

The Coop restaurant

Today we visited the Food Coop with Nina after class. This restaurant is very old and opened its door in at 1975. When we arrived at the Food Coop it was crowded and there was no place to stop or make a small group how ever we took some photos. This restaurant serves many vegetarian foods and some kinds of meets, I think just turkey. Essa, I walked around for a few minutes and then we excused ourselves to have a lunch at Subway because we like to eat meat very much

The first week in 003 class

What your ambition? This question it is common for people to ask you about your dream. So everyone has a dream for example, to be a manager, a Doctor and an ambassador. My ambition is to finish my study at university of Maryland, and then I want to be a manger.

So I came to the U.s. To improve my English and graduate from the university of Maryland. Now I am in 003 at MEI to learn more English, and we started one week ago. I think this class has a wealth of many new things to learn so I am happy to get new things in English. We now we are just starting and I hope to begin my academic studies in spring semester.

I went to MacDonald’s with Malik for lunch. We had a different meal. I had a chicken sandwich and some chips, and Malik had a big mac meal, which consists of ground beef with cheese, and Ice cream. I like MacDonald’s food very much and always teat it in my country. Actually today I couldn’t go with Nina to the Dairy because I had some think to do. I hope to go with Nina the next time.

Who I Am and Why I Am Here

Anyone who travels to another country must tell people about himself. It’s a normal question: who are you? So you must talk about yourself. In this post I will introduce myself

My name is Saoud. I am from Qatar in the Middle East. I love my family very much and I know all of you love your family. My parents are old, and I have five brothers and three sisters. My father was an officer in the Ministry of Interior and my mother was a teacher of Arabic in our schools. My oldest brother, Salem, is also an officer and three of my brothers are officers in the Ministry of Interior, but the last one works at a television station. I think most people here have heard of Al-Jazeera. My oldest sister is also a teacher like my mother, but she teaches history. My second and third sisters are housewives. All of them are married, and they have children.

I started school in 1992, and I just finished high school last year. I like soccer very much. I can’t live without soccer games, and I can play soccer very well. I have come to enjoy American football since I came here. I am interested in history and I have a good background in many things which happened in history.

I think what makes me different is that I can play football (soccer) because people here don’t like soccer too much.

I came to the United States because I hope to finish my study here, and I will be proud to do that. I hope to take some classes in my major in January. Studying at MEI has helped me to speak English better than I could when I first came here.
